Complete and Easy Guide: What you Should Know About VanHomes Flooring

Complete and Easy Guide: What you Should Know About VanHomes Flooring

It’s general wisdom that some of the most important purchases you’ll make are things you spend a lot of time on top of. Mattresses and shoes are typical examples, but flooring is just as important.

This blog will answer some common questions we get related to flooring, including insulation, timber, strength, and colouring.

Can you insulate under the floor?

We do not insulate under the floor due to our folding design. Customers generally cover the bottom in with colourbond, which helps with insulation. A customer could insulate under the floor once on site if they wish.

Can I have underfloor heating?

We cannot install any underfloor heating as the VanHome needs to fold, and there is no suitable location to fit underfloor heating because of the innovative folding design.

Can you put floating timber floors?

Once our team has installed the VanHome, the customer could lay their floating timber floors. However, these will need to be removed if you ever want to move the VanHome, as floating floors will limit our ability to fold the VanHome.

How would you describe the floor strength? Is it strong enough for a piano or waterbed or something big?

Our floor is strong and not as bouncy underfoot as a regular caravan. Our customers often tell us that it is much sturdier than they anticipated.

Whilst the floor can handle hundreds of kilograms per square meter. We recommend checking with us if you have a specific item that is very heavy. We will be able to establish the weight distribution of the item and let you know if our floor is suitable for it to sit on.

What's the floor made of?

It has aluminium or steel bearers and joists, with plywood grooves and flooring above the joists.

Why can I feel a slight bump under the floor?

The annex floor itself is attached using a piano hinge. For this reason, where the floors are joined, there will be a slight bump under foot that is ever so slightly noticeable when walking across it.

Why can I lift the lino up in some areas?

We cannot use adhesive the whole way around the VanHome to attach the flooring to the floorboards. We require the flooring to be able to move when folding and unfolding the VanHome for packing and installation otherwise it will end up creased, ripped and damaged.

Can you change the flooring options?

We can change the colour and the look of it. However, we can't change the material type. Because VanHomes fold-out, we have to use a flexible product, our luxury sheet vinyl. This comes in a range of styles and colours that look stylish, as well as being hardwearing and easy to clean.  Either paired with our carpet range or on its own, flooring sets the tone for your VanHome.
